Stain Removal Guide

Suggested stain treatment:  1 Treat a stain promptly.  2 Scoop off excess soiling. 3 Work only with the pile direction.  4 Work toward the center of a stain. 5 Flush any applied treatment thoroughly.  For additional information, click here.

This stain removal guide applies only to wool pile carpets.  For silk rugs, and rugs other than wool, seek professional help.  By using this tool you are accepting all responsibility for subsequent damages which may occur from actual use.  RugRag will not be held liable for any damage which may develop.  Proceed at your own risk.

Remove Coffee by following these steps:

  1. Soak in Detergent & Vinegar Solution.
  2. After 15 minutes,
  3. Rinse with water.
  4. Sponge with Alcohol.
  5. Wash area.
  6. Soak in Enzyme Solution for 30 minutes.
  7. Wash area.
Detergent & Vinegar Solution

Make the detergent & vinegar solution by mixing:
  • 1 quart warm water
  • 1/2 teaspoon detergent
  • and 1 tablespoon vinegar


Sponge

Be sure to test sponges on the stain removers you will be using to be sure they can withstaand the chemicals.

Alcohol

  • Use rubbing alcohol or denatured alcohol (70% to 90% concentration).
  • Do not use alcohol with colors or fragrances.
  • Test rug for color fastness as alcohol can fade some dyes.
  • Observe all precautions on the label.


Enzyme Solution

  • Mix one quart warm water with 1 tablespoon enzyme presoak.
  • Enzyme becomes inactive if stored in solution.
