11'5" x 15'5" Excluding Fringe

Background Info:

100% authentic hand knotted carpet. Made in or around the area of tabriz Iran, age approximately mid 20th century.

2 ply wool pile on cotton foundation.

knot density: Approximately 110 Knots Per Square Inch

Field is a repeat Herati or "Mahi" pattern with medallion. border features an informal "turtle" design element with animal busts stemming from the main body of a flower print.  Very attractive field grounded with excellent design execution per medallion. Accents of spandrels in each corner of the main field are fluid. Border shows slight shift from "center", with merging border designs in corners. This does not significantly affect value: only alludes to a less formal production.  Carpet has slight abrash in lower border as seen in images, however, as determined by provided photographs, does not exhibit any significant signs of sun fade, oxidation or dramatic change in dye lots.

The rug has a signature cartouche framed in a dark outline, with ivory ground and darker inscription/writing which is probably a signature of the weaver.

Other Notes:

One end appears to have been overcasted to prevent loss of knots.  A few select areas appear to show some knot heads, or exposed close to the knot heads.  Inspect rug in person for evenly aligned sides and 90 degree corners or additional buyer criteria.
