Designer Tommy Hilfiger has opened up an East Hampton storefront which will be his 10th freestanding location in the US. The store has been decorated in a style fitting of both Hilfiger design and the local East Hampton area. The Persian rugs we see in the photos are on top of a herringbone oak floor. We'd definitely have to see better pictures of each rug to say what each
is. We would venture to guess the big orange one could be a new Indian
interpretation of a oushak design. They're often washed 3+ times to get
high luster and a deep bright orange. It could also be a Moroccan rug
or Gabbeh, but gabbehs usually aren't made that large as they're
typically a nomadic weave made by the Qashqa'i. The smaller 4' x 6' carpet is probably Turkish or Persian, seen in the second photo below.
It's
interesting that retailers are begining to integrate oriental rugs into
their decor. We visited a local clothing shop not too long ago where a
patchwork rug was out on the floor. They can be found on ebay for around $2,000 in a 10' x 15' size, but if you're the governor of NY , you can have 2 for $21,000.
