This is a classic example of a samovar. According to teatips.com, this samovar is of Russian origin, and approximately 100 years of age.
What is interesting to note, is many Persian and Oriental Carpets have "samovar" like design in the borders which is also referred to as a "turtle" design element. Some suggest the samovar as a material item came before carpets, while others say the design is simply coincidence, and the name was chosen by some to describe the design element within Persian and other Oriental Rugs. These design elements can be seen in Tabriz, Heriz, Bidjars, Bakhtiari, and many other Persian rugs. Take a look at this example below, which has been woven into a Tabriz carpet from Northwest Persia from around 1900. Compare the metal Samovar to the one in the carpet, would you say the two are related?
