This November 5th thru the 8th, Stark Carpet held a warehouse sale at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, NY. According to the Regional Manager Gary Greenwald, the sale is a biennial event.
The sale predominantly featured hand knotted Oriental Rugs, although fabrics, furniture, and other home items were also available.
When we visited on Sunday, there were many customers browsing, and a few rugs rolled up destined for a new home. Rightly so, along with some great deals to be had there were some beautiful, high quality rugs!

Above: A kilim with very fine weave. Actually a very colorful carpet measuring in the vicinity of 9' x 12'. Extremely affordable at a bargain price of $350!
Above: There were plenty of modern hand knotted carpets, among the favorites were the high contrast and tone on tone pieces.
Above: My personal favorites were of the 'Faraghan Collection': Rugs with similar characteristics and designs to antique Faraghan Sarouk carpets from Iran, but newer imports made in Pakistan. In many ways, these rugs are very much made in the spirit of the true antiques. Prices on these varied, although were generally in the area of $1700 - $3000 for a 4' x 6' through 5' x 7' size.
Above: Detail of the top Faraghan Sarouk design made in Pakistan. Beautiful abrash, somewhat irregular design (in the spirit of the older rugs which we like to see), excellent construction, and great quality wool.
Above: Another Farahan Sarouk design in ivory!
Above: Other collections such took it one step further, with lower piles to simulate even wear and use.
Above: Unfortunately, the photos of this carpet came out extremely dry. In reality, the colors are incredibly saturated in the jewel family. It's a Mamluk Revival hand knotted in Pakistan with natural dyes and handspun wool. These rugs are quickly gaining popularity. In our opinion, for those lucky enough to afford this quality, will soon be the new 'peshawar phase'. This particular piece was approximately 14'x14' square, with a price around $13,800. A very justifiable investment.
Above: Same Pakistani interpretation of a classic Mamluk design.
Above: Not our favorite, but something for everyone.
Above: Overall great use of tone on tone in conjunction with contrast. A very simple yet elegant design.
