Question:
Hi, I saw this rug at a friends house and was wanting more info! I took a photograph of the tag, but not can't quite make it out now. How much does something like this go for? Can you point me in the direction of a seller? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hello, thanks for contacting!
This is an EGE Axminster rug with a wool pile, machine made in Denmark. It does appear to be dated 1979, so we would imagine perhaps early 1980's vintage. These are not entirely common to find, and are highly sought after by a select collectors.
One of the nicer elements to a rug such as this is they tend to have more horizontal interest in regards to the market. Art aficionados, dali connoisseurs, those who simply appreciate the quality of EGE rugs, etc.
In regards to machine made rugs, these types of commissioned designs will tend to fetch a bit more of a premium than say you're run of the mill traditional design. It appears as though the piece you've sent may be roughly a 7' x 10' or so. Unfortunately we cannot recall the exact dimensions these were produced, however the information below is based upon the approximate measurements we figure.
In regards to value, that's very much subjective with a piece such as this. As with all rugs, location of purchase will often affect the asking price, however, given the nature of design the type of shop may also hold weight. If you were to find one at a vintage shop, it's not inconceivable it may be priced in the vicinity of $3,200 +/- in like new condition. On the other hand, second hand or from a rug store may be less.
We do know of a few people who may have a few of this type of rug in stock. We will e-mail this to you privately, and do suggest to keep an ongoing search on sites such as ebay and craigslist. It may take a bit of time to find, but you may luck out!
Thanks for bringing this interesting rug to our blog, hope we've helped.
