"I can't tell if it's hand made or not"
Yes! It's hand knotted, and is probablythe late 1960's to early 1970's vintage (close to semi-antique of 50 years.) Appears to have been made in Iran, although we'd have to see more images to verify rug origin as many good copies came from India in the later part of the 70's & early 80's.
Sounds like you got a deal either way, a great design and typical characteristics of the tabatabaie workshop from tabriz. These rugs were usualy around 30 RAJ, or approximately 120 KPSI +/- although qualities varied depending on importer. In new, unused condition with good design these rugs normally go for $3,000 - 4,000 in the 9'x12' size retail. Average wear and tear from a private party in good condition (no significant stains or major problems), figure about $800 - 1200 in 9' x 12'.
Great Find! And to everyone out there with mini-storage bills... Be sure to pay them ;-)
