Investment Quality Shiraz Carpet
Probably one of the largest, if not the largest, Tribal Carpet in the United States.
Size: 13'x27'9"
Age: ~70 year old antique. Est. 1935
Condition: Overall, carpet is in very good condition. Owner states carpet has been in storage unused for at least 50 years. Pile is 98% full and as new, with only one small area showing slightly lower which has been attributed to uneven shearing from the weaver. Several small repaired areas appear to have been made during production of this piece. There is very minor and scattered moth damage not noticeable unless under close examination on hands and knees. Total affected area is no greater than one square foot, translating to less than .006% square feet of the rug. No end loss, no matting, no stains, no knot heads, no dry area or other. The rug is created on a wool foundation which both fragile and susceptible to breakage under hard use. An outstandingly well-taken-care-of carpet unusual in both condition, genre and size.
Special Attributes: Wool foundation is very extraordinarily unusual for a carpet of this size. In person this carpet comes alive with a very subtle change in dye lots adding great depth and character to the piece.
Technical: 1 and 2 ply hand spun wool pile on wool foundation. This is a one piece rug constructed on a single, massive loom.
