This weekend past RugRag visited beautiful upstate NY.
This is a great time of year to visit upstate and while most people from the NYC area wouldn't make the trip for rugs and rugs only, we can say with certainty: If you're within a 2 hour drive from Syracuse and in the market for oriental rugs, jacobsen is THE PLACE to go. If you are not going upstate any time soon, their website is awesome and may answer all your rug questions and needs! Replete with educational information and inventory. Take your time to navigate the site. There's a reason why their surname is 'RugPeople'.
Jacobsen Rugs is, (and, for many, many years, has been) a leading retailer of Oriental Rugs for good reason. Integrity & reputation: A stalwart in the fine hand knotted carpet industry. Looking beyond the quality merchandise, wide array of sizes, investment ranges... The people behind the name are sincere & friendly. Trade-ins may be accepted, and although they have a spacious 20,000 square foot showroom, repairs and cleaning are independent of Jacobsen's primary focus.
One of the elements which struck me about visiting Jacobsen Rugs is this: There's no reason to leave without something. A pillow, a mini rug coaster, a small rug for hanging, anything. There are plenty of take-aways at very low, and reasonable prices. Plus, the experience is free, and there's every reason to to see their interesting and varied collection of rugs of all origins.

Above: Rug Coasters, of course!
Above: First rug to catch my eye walking into Jacobsen Rugs. A beautiful tree and animal motif.
Above: This may be in the top 3 finest war rugs I have seen to date.
Above: Lower maintenance than a fish tank! Really awesome and unique.
Above: gabbeh with combination pile and soumac weave. This is awesome. Sophisticated for discriminating adult tastes, but a rug that the next generation of rug lovers will appreciate too. Tremendous character and charm.
Above: Gorgeous Mamluk 7' x 10' rug. The photograph does no justice. Eye candy to see in person with an older feel and classic Mamluk inspired design.
Above: Very fine pakistani piece. Exceptional knot density for this genre, with excellent design, execution and colors.
When you visit, please do send our regards to Mr. Matthew Bourdon and Mr. Goodsell. Great people, know their stuff about rugs & very personable.
