| Mashad is a city in Northeast Iran which produces varying qualities of
Oriental and Persian Rugs from low to high investment grade. Mashad
Oriental rugs often employ bolder colors, sometimes with top colors on
the pastel side, although often predominantly deep and rich overall.
Commercial quality mashad rugs are often found to have medallions, less
pastel colors and kpsi around 100. Higher grade Mashads may implement
several types of fibers including silk, wool, kurk wool, and cotton or
silk foundations. Unlike some Persian rugs which feature flowers, or
"Palmettes", Mashads sometimes emphasize leaf shapes as stronger design
elements, often jagged and angular, yet shapely as well.
