While looking up some local NYC places to get our groove on, we came across M2 Ultra Lounge located in West Chelsea. Turns out it's not really our bottle of Dom Perignon, but the place is loaded with oriental rugs! This "mega-club" focuses on non stop energy and entertainment, and is known to have celebrity appearances by Jay-Z, Sean "Puffy" Combs, John Mayer and many more. Anyway enough with the celebrity gossip, like we mentioned they have a large amount of carpets, and that's why we're here.
The first and third photos below show an intepretation of a kashan design, which is often called an Ardekan or Mashad. This rug is very similar to the rug seen in The Big Lebowski. For the second rug, it appears to be an all over tabriz design, although the pattern looks a bit tighter and the elements aren't quite fititing. As with many highly trafficked public venues, no matter how exclusive, chances are these are probably going to be machine made rugs. Nevertheless, we are definitely pleased to see them as part of the decor in a place that has a base cover charge of $20 just to get in the door!
