LOT 11263 kashan part silk Souf Meditation carpet.
CENTRAL PERSIA, CIRCA 1900. 10 ft. x 6 ft. 9 in.
Estimate: $10,000-15,000
SOLD: $10,000 + 25% Buyers Premium. 8 bids
Freeman's Comments: Generally good condition with an interesting sea-foam green field. The raised silk areas appear to be generally fully intact; the ends and sides are intact. There are some areas with creasewear in the green field. In two reciprocal areas in the green field, near the lower left/right sides, are matching metal areas contained within acanthus leaves. There is a repaired area at top edge, left. In parts of top border , there are some small breaks, some minor repairs and cobbling. Carpet is pliable, not dry or brittle.
Rug Rag Comments: As seen in the photographs below, this particular type of woven Kashan has both flat woven and piled areas. This rug is in overall very good to excellent condition as these rugs tended to not be used. Pile shows no visible wear. It is apparent this rug has been extremely well maintained, with original fringes intact (again showing little wear if any).
Most any part of the rug you see in green above is woven flat, everything else is silk pile. You can see the depth of the rug in the photograph below.
