THIRD FLOOR GALLERY
LOT 11209 soumac carpet.
EAST CAUCASUS, CIRCA LATE 19TH CENTURY. 11 ft. 3 in. x 7 ft. 5 in.
SOLD: $2,600 + 25% Buyers Premium.
Freeman's Comments: In fair overall condition, with areas of wear and some associated tinting (?) and repairs. Most of the charcoals are worn- in these areas, the restored places are somewhat stiff to the touch. Sides are intact; one end is nearly fully intact; other end with only minor losses. Each end with original brocade finishes (partial in some areas). inscribed and dated 13**
Rug Rag Comments: We were pretty surprised by the condition of this carpet. There was a great deal of the pile which had been glued to prevent loss of fibers, areas of paint/dye to cover wear, and even some chainstitch work to "repair" low areas. The soumac definitely had potential to be one of the best looking rugs at the gallery, unfortunately the condition was simply fair at absolute best.
