Here's a short overview on distinguishing original selvages vs. restored selvages on an antique pictorial Laver Kirman (Kermanshah) 2'x3' rug. We're going to go into more detail about these rugs in the near future, specifically the areas in which they were woven.
This particular piece is approximately 100 years+, in overall very good/excellent condition. The pile shows virtually no signs of wear, however, the one edge has been re-selvaged. This does not severely impact value, but it is worth making note of because in many pieces, reselvaging may hint to the rug actually having been reduced at some point in time.
Let us know if you have any questions, this is just a short introduction to antique rugs. Feel free to e-mail or comment at the bottom of this post!
