Investment Quality Palace Carpet
Probably one of the largest, if not the largest, oriental rug in the United States.
Age: ~100 year old antique. Est. 1890-1910
condition: Overall, carpet is in very good to excellent condition. Owner states carpet has been in storage unused for at least 60 years. Pile is full and no different than original height. Tips of wool very slightly oxidized, giving the rug an aged [golden] patina. abrash is evident in background red. Two small repaired areas together totalling less than half a square foot: The owner believes the damage can be attributed to a bale "hook" when in transport during importation to the US. No end loss, no moth damage, no matting, no stains, no knot heads, no dry area, no splits or other. An outstandingly well-taken-care-of carpet unusual in both condition and size.
Technical: 2 ply wool pile on cotton foundation. Knots open to the left with approximately 215 kpsi (average measure of three counts 15x15, 15x15 and 14x14.) This is a one piece rug constructed on a single, massive loom.
