Covering the City

By David Dilmaghani

Over the course of the last several months, I've been spending more time in New York City on the weekends.  In the upcoming weeks, I fully anticipate covering some hot spots including wholesalers and rug sightings in random places throughout Manhattan and even Brooklyn too.

This Friday, Sept 4th, I hope to visit Mr. Anavian of New York Antiques.  In 2008, I took his rug appraisal class through NYU.  It was very educational when it came to dating, valuation, and assessment of color ranges with natural dyes.  Mr. Anavian has a vast knowledge of rugs, and quite an ecclectic inventory of old and unique pieces I can't wait to blog about!  Additionally, if you would like us to mystery shop a location for you, let us know by contacting the Rug Rag Oriental Rug Specialists!

Outside of Rug retailers and wholesalers, some of the more interesting locations to me are those where nice hand knotted rugs are found in unexpected places:  From a Real Estate Agency with hand knotted vintage american sarouks on the floor, to a Florist with an Afghan bokhara and a Cleaner with jaipur rugs in the entryway.  Owner permitting, I can't wait to cover a few of these small businesses with photos to augment.  If you share this similar interest and spot a rug at a local business, feel free to send them in to us!
