April 30th, 2008. To add to the extensive Private carpet collection of the Claremont Rug Company of California, Mr. Winitz, founder and president of Claremont Rug Company, has announced today the additional acquisition (phase II of the February 12th announced purchase) of 34 more investment, art level, antique oriental rugs from the previously posted Hudson Valley New York Carpet Collection.
This particular collection of carpets has been termed in the past as the "Mother Lode" of Oriental Rugs. The carpets of such collection are of exception quality and condition, a possibility which has never been available on such a public level, and in such a grand scale for many years within the Oriental Rug industry. As Mr. Winitz himself stated, "I sincerely believe carpets of this magnitude will not be available in the next generation at any price."
The carpets are part of an extensive collection amassed by an unnamed Wall Street Financier located just north of New York City. According to the collector, the carpets took some 50 years to accumulate. Included in the group are some highly collectible, and rare examples of antique hand knotted carpets from around the globe. Many of these items remained undisplayed on the floor, but rather spent the majority of the time adorning tables, chairs and walls of the now 80 year old financier's home.
Among the more unusual carpets acquired in the second phase of this acquisition has been noted to be an inscribed Ferahan Sarouk, which according to prnewswire.com, with the date is noted as 1804, with an unusual inscription signed "Masterwork of the Delmaghani (Delamaqani, Dilmaghani) family." According to Winitz, the condition and quality of this particular rug are of unparallelled excellence. The Dilmaghani name is still a well-known staple in the Oriental Rug Industry today. More traditionally, Dilmaghani is known for their Crown Kerman, collection of palace and oversized mansion rugs, as well as their importation of hand knotted rugs from all over the world".
