Brunk Auctions to Offer Rare Items

Brunk Auctions is an auction house in Asheville, North Carolina which will have rare oriental carpets up for bid on September 12-13. The rugs used to be in North Carolina's Tryon Palace and have been in storage for 30 years. These carpets were installed back in 1959, but were later removed when it was relalized that there were no carpets as part of the original 18th century decor. There will be 34 carpets up for auction, but two of them in particular are extremely rare. An indo-Persian from the Safavid period in Persia has a pre-sale estimate of $40,000-$80,000. The other rare item is an Ottoman carpet from the 17th century in Cairo, Egypt and is expected to fetch between $30,000-$60,000. The remaning rugs will range anywhere from $400-$25,000.
