OUCH!!! The style of this rug is probably best termed as a "
kashan"
design, which is a typical Persian design from the city of Kashan in
Iran. The pattern alludes to this by both the
border design which
incorporates a stylized flower (in the rug business called a
palmette),
and the navy blue outlined "lantern" which stems from the medallion
immediately to the right side of her left knee cap. Outside of the
design elements, Kashan style
rugs are notorious for their use of reds,
blues and ivory.
