A large rug can be very heavy. Figure on average, a carpet weights almost one pound per square foot. This means positioning the average 6x9 rug is little different than trying to handle a 50 pound bed sheet. When there's padding underneath the rug, perfect placement can be even more difficult. larger rugs are also quite troublesome to place. So what is the best way to maneuver your rug into the perfect position?
Roll your carpet up, lift it into position and then unroll.
Wafting air underneath the rug with an up and down motion is the most effective way to position it into your room. Never do this by holding the fringe: always bunch as much of the rug into your hand as possible to distribute tension within the rug. It helps if you work with another person to waft air under the rug.
